Child Safety Seat Program

Safe Kids Buckle Up is the largest, most comprehensive program of the National Safe Kids Campaign. More than 300 state and local Safe Kids coalitions make up the Safe Kids Buckle Up  family. The goal of the program is to reduce the number of injuries and deaths associated with motor vehicle crashes by educating families about child passenger safety.

In our continuing effort to provide the best possible service to the residents of our community, Sgt John Gaffney and Officer Jeffrey Fortemps recently attended the Child Passenger Safety Course and are now certified technicians. This certification allows them to conduct the following:

Select appropriate child restraints for children.
Install child restraint systems in multiple types of vehicles.
Teach others how to install child restraint systems.
Organize and coordinate a child restraint system checkup event.
Serve as a resource to the community relative to child passenger safety.

The Saddle River Police Department will be conducting child seat inspections periodically throughout the year. Our most recent event was quite a success. With the assistance of officers from Montvale, Hohokus, and  Upper Saddle River, officers inspected well over 60 vehicles! For pictures of this event, click on the thumbnails shown below.
